Emmys 2013 Fashion Recap

People are always bagging on awards shows and it seems as though that is especially true when it comes to the Emmys. I personally rather enjoyed this Sunday's Emmys, although it was slightly death-centric but, then again, a number of key people died.

Anyway, this stuff is boring, let's talk about the fashion!

To start, I get my red carpet jollies from E! and may I just say, I am deeply concerned about Giuliana Ransic. We are past the point of "naturally thin" at this point. May I also say that Ryan Seacrest still annoys me to no end and that the Intern Ross/ Kelly Osborne combo is my favorite [and I wish I could subtley drop myself into that combo and do red carpet dish with them].

Ok, so here's the good stuff......

LOVE IT

We should come to expect nothing less than perfection from the host of one of the premier shows about fashion design. I think we all know that I love anything that sparkles, but I'm also obsessed with the oxblood color that is so huge for fall. Put them together and you have the perfection that is Heidi Klum's dress.

This dress is so boring and matronly and she totally clashes with the red carpet which ain't a good look.

MEH

This Cobie Smulders dress gives me flashbacks to the horrific Anne Hathaway Oscars dress fiasco BUT at the same time I don't hate it. The structure is beautiful and the color is only slightly boring. Needs more jewelry. Ladies, always remember, a strapless dress is your most fantastic opportunity for a statement necklace. That little piece of advice was free.

LOVE IT

I mean, obviously this is a yes. How could it not be? That dress! Those boobs! The color! I want to know how they matched her dress almost exactly to the red carpet. Red lace is super sexy and muy Latin so this seems like a perfect choice for Sofia.

LEAVE IT

Ok, I actually really like 98% of this dress but it gets a LEAVE IT due to the no pants/ no lining situation! Can someone please explain to me what is with the phenomenon of "let's look like we are figure skaters OR that we are just in our underwear"? I simply do not get it. This dress is beautiful otherwise. Also- NEEDS MORE JEWELRY. See above.

MEH

The color of this dress is delightful, I just think it's super boring and safe. Also, NEEDS MORE JEWELRY. See above! And while you're at it, see www.stelladot.com/leeanncarlen. I should have shared that with you guys prior to the Emmys. My bad on that one!

LOVE IT

Flawless. I wouldnt be mad at some larger earrings, but this dress is divine.

Kerry Washington usually brings her A game on the red carpet, but I am just not feeling this look.

MEH

Ok, I actually kind of like this dress and think it is super appropriate for Lena and her personality. My issue mainly lies with the make up and the hair. Now, I can't hate too hard on the hair because that is likely what mine will look like in a few short months, but was the turqoise inner eye really necessary? Me thinks no.

LOVE IT

Robin Wright is showing us all how to do black without the boring. I love this dress.

LEAVE IT
some_text
Now I love me some Connie Britton like no other, but this dress is about 10 peacock feather shades of wrong. What the what? People already think Nashville is podunk- don't muss up our reputation any further with this shenangen of a dress!

MEH
some_text
I think this is beautiful, but I also think it looks like it could have come from the Anthropologie website and that I might be wearing it to my cousins wedding next year. Bump up your game January.

LOVE IT

I feel like Julie Bowen must have an incredible stylist because she always looks so great on the red carpet while almost always doing something different than she's done before. I absolutely love this dress. I love that the bodice is detailed and detailed with the unexpected sleeve, but is still tame enough to compliment the flare at the bottom. Well done!

LEAVE IT

In the words of my friend "Why does Carrie Underwood think she's a Disney princess?" I just don't like this dress- it looks like she's going to prom. I do appreciate that she wore a necklace with a strapless dress [finally] but even though I'm sure that necklace is from Fred Leighton or something else equally fancy, the dress makes the necklace look like it came from Claire's. Also- put some highlights in your hair.

MEH
some_text
There's nothing wrong with this dress or this look overall, I just feel like we have seen this look from Tina before and I would love to see her take a chance and do something different.

LOVE IT
some_text
Ok, I think this look is just oh so chic. If I were a size 00, I would wear this everyday of my life. To work, to the gym, to concerts, to church. It's just so simplistically fabulous. However- Rose I'm concerned with how skinny you are getting.

LEAVE IT
some_text
Erm, is she on her way to an Italian funeral? This dress just makes me feel sad.

MEH
some_text
Again, nothing particularly wrong with this look, I just feel like Purple Satin reminds me of prom [probably because one of my prom dresses was this exact fabric and color. Trendsetter, I know.]

LOVE IT
some_text
Now, all the young starlets can take a tip from Leslie Mann on how to do the exposed leg while wearing a long dress- this is the way. It doesn't look like she's a figure skater or that you can see her underwear, its just an interesting fadeout on the skirt of a dress. I also happen to love the design pattern on this dress. It's a win all around.

LEAVE IT
some_text
WHY ARE ALL OF THESE GIRLS SO OPPOSED TO NECKLACES? I love the color of this dress but I hate the rest. The End.

MEH
some_text
I just don't think the detailing on the hips is enough to make this dress interesting. You can do better Amy.

LOVE IT
some_text
Now this is a DRESS. First of all, I am loving Kate Mara's hair. Secondly, the intricate, lacey top of this dress is to die for  and the long, sleek skirt with the pleat is making my heart hurt it's so good. Well done!

LEAVE IT
some_text
I mean, seriously- what is this dress? Giuliana usually kills it, but I just cannot deal with this today.

MEH
some_text
Now I do actually love this dress but Sarah Hyland is a young girl and I feel like overall this look makes her look much older than she actually is.

LOVE IT
some_text
This dress is so perfect for a 13 year old girl. It's fashionable, but comletely age appropriate. Also, I can't get over how much Kieman Shipka is starting to look like Emma Watson. She is an adorable teenager.

LEAVE IT
some_text
Um.....yeah, no. I can kind of appreciate that Zooey is maybe trying to not be so damn quirky all the time, but really? A Baby Blue satin dress? I just can't.

MEH
some_text
I think I like this dress, I'm just not 100% sure. There is something about the look that is holding me back from liking it, but I'm having a hard time putting my finger on it. I am actually ok with the fact that she isn't wearing a necklace because she has the sparkly detail on the hip. It gets a "Meh" cause I'm just not sure.

LOVE IT
some_text
I mean.....I can't. This dress is so perfect. SHE is so perfect. All of this is just so perfect. I need this dress to be in my closet asap, and then I'm going to need a place to wear it. This might be my favorite dress of the evening.

LEAVE IT

Did she get this dress at New York and Company? It's not cute and it's also not terribly flattering. YOU CAN DO BETTER, MINDY!

MEH
some_text
I want to like this dress......but I just don't. Probably because SHE ISN'T WEARING A NECKLACE.

LOVE IT
some_text
Padma, Padma, Padma, always bringing the elegance and class. Loving this look.

LEAVE IT
some_text
I think this kind of goes without saying. Awkward acceptance speech, terrible dress choice.

MEH
some_text
OK, in all actuality, I LOVE this dress. I'm giving it a "Meh" because I can't quite decern what is going on with the collar and also because it kind of looks like she got it from Free People. But I love Free People, and therefore I don't totally hate this.

LOVE IT
some_text
I think Zosia is killing it with this dress. It's very on trend with the watercolor florals but also super original and elegant at the same time. I don't actually know who made this dress but my guess is that it might be Zac Posen. If you actually know, please leave it in the comments! [I'm obviously too lazy for Google today]

LEAVE IT
some_text
Um.........hey Big Bird! This look gets an all around NO! Let's start at the top- bangs are not for everyone- they just aren't! That particular shade of blonde is one that I'm only used to seeing on meth heads in my hometown who are buying Newports in the gas station while barefoot. And that dress- WOOF! The cut and shape of the dress isn't terrible, but I think it would look better on someone who had a few extra pounds to carry in their waist- it would hide it well. Anna Farris is super thin and therefore does not need any interesting draping across her midsection. And no one needs that color. Ever.

MEH
some_text
I mean, "meh" is pretty much all I have for this. There's nothing terrible about it but there's also nothing super special. It just is.

LOVE IT
some_text
I just love this whole look and can't wait for my hair to be that color and length.

LEAVE IT
some_text
She looks like a sparkly cat woman! Also, a word to the ladies who are super thin- Enjoy it. Just be. Don't try to add weird hips via a dress because it just looks......weird.

MEH
some_text
The draping of this dress is kind of nice, but the hideous black motif on the bright white is a little stark and makes my eyes hurt a little. Also, say it with me.......can we get a necklace here?

And that wraps up my Emmy's Fashion Recap! I hope you enjoyed it and at least somewhat agreed!

MUSIC MONDAY

Whew! Happy Monday you guys! Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend- let's check out some new music, eh?

It's amazing to me how quickly Lorde has blown up. I myself only discovered her about 6 weeks ago and suddenly in the past few weeks she seems to be everywhere [as acknowledged in my recent Saints of Valory post].

This teen out of New Zealand is making fresh indie pop musc with a hint of gangsta R&B. Her song "Royals" has been covered many times over and is super worthy of the praise, but she's got other good shiz too. Her debut album "Pure Heroine" is out September 30th, so be on the lookout.

Check out some of her tunes below and let me know what you think in the comments!

What I'm Listening to Now

Tuesday Tunesday

I have missed the past two Music Mondays but at least yesterday I had a great excuse- it was (No) Labor Day! Lezbehonest, days off work are my favorite. One day soon I will figure out a way to do all of my work from the beach, but until then, random Mondays off will just have to do.

This morning I am listening to Nashville's own Moon Taxi. USA Today is streaming their new album, Mountains Beaches Cities until it's release next week on September 10th.
